Signs If You're Qualified or Not to Have a Dog

So you're getting a dog? Read this before you do.
Some dogs (like K9 dogs, guide dogs, rescue dogs, etc) are used for specific purposes. It's okay! Thank God for dogs and how he gives us the intelligence on how to take advantage of their abilities too. As long as we're treating them right and not exploiting them, it's good to use animals abilities for the benefit of society. What about having them as pets? Some people own dogs for the wrong reasons. Many people honestly are not qualified to own dogs. But they do, and unfortunately laws in regard to this are reinforced only to certain point, so they get away with it, causing the animals to suffer.
So if you think of getting yourself a dog, here I made a list and wrote my take on it so you can read it and take it into consideration. How can you know if you're qualified to have a dog or not?
Signs you're not qualified:
- You're abusive
- You got abusive kids or other abusive household members.
- You want it just so it can be an alarm for your house.
- You want it just to tie it in the back and keep it there.
- You want it just to put it in a cage and keep it there.
- You use it for dog fights.
- You mainly own it to use it as an adornment, taking it everywhere you go, carrying it or in a basket.
- You're so busy that you're never home and no one is there to take care of it.
- You live in a very filthy house filled with roaches and all kinds of things.
- You don't care keeping the dog outside in a cold freezing weather.
- You have hazardous chemicals and rat venom laying all over the place.
- You seriously don't care much about the dog's health and well being... you're just an idiot.
Signs that you're qualified:
- You're an animal lover and you take good care of them.
- You're not one of those hot-head type of people who take it on the dog when you're angry.
- You have a big farm or yard where he can follow you and run all over the place. Or at least a yard.
- You treat it like one more member of your family.
- You're always up to date with it's vaccines.
- You're allowed to have dogs in your place, if you rent.
- You enjoy watching the dog being free and living the life a dog is intended to live.
I believe we have to improve more as a society in keeping a watch of the well being of our animals. Anyone who is caught doing the descriptions as a non qualifier, should be fined, (or taken to court depending the degree of cruelty) and their dogs taken away. I can't stand watching the shows where the animals are rescued because their owner totally abused and neglected them. I like that they're rescued, but I hate animal abuse... any kind of abuse! God gave us animals so we can take good care of them.
Now, I don't believe that we should raise our animals to a point that they become this super spoiled kid who's never taught or disciplined. Some people do go to the other extreme and treat their dog as if they were an idol, like the holy cows in certain parts of India.Their dog do many inappropriate stuff when visitors come and the owner just smile, even though the visitors may feel uncomfortable. That's another extreme.
What I'm referring here is that society gets away a lot with animal cruelty. Just go around the houses, especially low income areas and check their back yards. You'll know what I'm talking about. Now, I'm not saying that people who have dogs caged or tied in the back are bad people, but maybe they're just ignorant of this. We as a society should give more emphasis on educating people in regard to this.
